Can you imagine being able to get the honey out of your hive without having to open it and without disturbing the bees? This is what Flow™ Hive will allow you to do.
Flow™ is an innovation from two Australian farmers, who have been working on this project for over a decade. Now their product is ready, and through a Kickstarter Indiegogo campaign you will be able to order one of this amazing hives.
The Flow has a partially formed honeycomb, in which the bees will be able to complete the comb with wax and honey as usual. When you are ready to harvest, just turn the toll, like a tap, then the cells will split vertically, forming channels and allowing the honey to flow down to a sealed trough at the base of the frame, and out of the hive, leaving the bees practically undisturbed.
Once the honey has finished draining, turn the tap again, thus resetting the comb to its original position, allowing the bees to chew the wax capping and fill it with honey again. You can also see the bees inside the hive, this will allow you to get an incredible view of an amazing process in the lives of the bees and also check the health of your hive. As you can imagine, the extraction process is a lot easier and faster than the normal method.
Cedar and Stu have been testing their method for a long time, and they have a lot of insights and recommendations for new and established beekeepers, you can check out their webpage or their facebook account.
The Flow™ Hive Indiegogo campaign will go live on Monday 23rd February 2015 at 11am Australian Eastern Standard Time.
It is a great project that has the distinct possibility of helping us to help the bees in this difficult times.
